Light Bulb

It was my birthday last week -- 24 wasn't that big of a deal. It kind of passed by...no significance. However, Matt did get me a Wii with help from my parents and his mom. My arm has been pretty sore. :)

My mom came to visit this week because she had a speaking engagement in town and she brought another gift. This is a little book she's been writing in throughout the years of fun little things that she wanted to remember about my childhood, or letters to me. Pretty cool! I thought it would be fun to share an excerpt from one of these:

March 3, 1994
Anne,
Today you pulled the "thermometer by the lightbulb" trick. The thermometer showed 106 degrees. Needless to say, you should have been on your deathbed with a temperature like that! Oh well, I asked you 2 times how the temperature got that high. Finally, you lowered your head and said "the lightbulb". I think your own embarassment was enough punishment. I don't think you'll try this again. P.S. I did it when I was about 9 years old too. :)

Hahaha...reading that brought me back to that moment and I suddenly remembered it so clearly. Its so fun to read little things like that about your childhood. I'm sure some of you have tried the thermometer trick at one point or another. ;)

Yearly Check Up

I had to go in this morning for my yearly doctors exam. They're no fun to begin with, but my doctor started the appointment with, "Now Anne, I need for you to create a living will and decide on your medical power of attorney. You never know when you're going to be in a car crash and I would prefer that there be no arguing within your family when, oh I'm sorry, "if" that should ever happen. Besides that, your blood tests look great!"

Um...Thanks...I think?

I have been included in a new game of blog tag entitled "MeMe." I was tagged by Amy Brooke. I don't normally take part in things like this, but this one seemed like fun.

Here comes the randomness...

1. When I was living in Paris, I got locked out of my house with the postman, in the middle of winter, in my pajamas!!! You can read the story here.

2. When I was young, my family was visiting my aunt in Evansville, IN. Stopping at a playground, I jumped onto this four-way teeter totter with my dad. Feeling insecure, I tried to change the grip I had on the handle bars. Just at that moment, my dad went down and I went up. I flew through the air and hit my head on this concrete block. I was freaking out when my parents told me that we had to go to the hospital to get stitches. The doctor obviously saw my fear and knew that I was not going to be an easy patient. So, he gave me an option, "Anne, do you want sutures or stitches?" Of course, I wanted anything but stitches so I immediately agreed to sutures! What a smart doctor!

3. Matt and I enjoy eating at a restaurant called Max and Erma's. They have a great ice cream sundae bar! You can see in the picture that Matt has a certain fondness for our friends Max and Erma.


4. I once saw Jack Nicholson at a LA Lakers game...he was like 100 rows away, but I still saw him! :)

5. I am absolutely obsessed with Paris and France! I think Matt is pretty sick of all of the French decorations in our house. You can only have so many Eiffel Tower pictures and statues. I would go back in a heart beat! Our wedding reception even had an Eiffel Tower theme as that is where Matt surprised me and proposed. LOVE FRANCE!!!

6. Lastly, when I was living in Paris, an old lady stole my Starbucks Mocha Frappucino right from in front of me! I was sitting outside enjoying a book and my mocah frap when all of the sudden my frap was gone! I looked up and this old bag lady smoking a cigar stole my mocah frappucino. The most hilarious part was...she wasn't moving very fast at all! So if I had wanted to I totally could have tackled her to the ground for my precious mocah frappucino but I figured I had already drank half of it...and if she was that desperate for my half drunk mocah she was welcome to it.

This is really funny...a pick me up for Thursday! We are off to Indianapolis tomorrow for 3 Family Christmases, then to Mt. Carmel for 2 Family Christmases, and then to Bloomington for my family's Christmas! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

I Sleep with a Sleep Walker

Matt's mom has told me stories of times Matt has slept-walked...but I have never seen him do this for myself...until a few weeks ago. (Mind you this story happened in about 30 seconds)

It was 1:30 AM and all of the sudden I felt my bed shaking and moving. I sit up to figure out what is going on and I see my husband standing on our bed! I am still groggy at this moment, but quickly became alert when he started to walk towards the end of our bed! I yell "Matt what are you doing!?!?!" and at the same moment, he hits his head on the ceiling light and then keeps walking RIGHT OFF THE BED!!!! I ran to turn the light on and he was just kneeling at the end of the bed. I tried asking him if he was okay because he had taken quite a fall but he just grunted and crawled right back into bed.

I turned the light off and layed back down next to him, listening to make sure he was still alive. All of the sudden, he rolls over on top of me...it was at that moment that I realized he never woke up and he was still sleeping or he would have realized that no I was not his pillow...but his wife who could no longer breathe! I got him to roll back over and being assured that Yes, he was obviously alive, I went back to sleep.

The next morning, he got up to turn off the alarm and said to me, "Did I fall off the bed last night?" ARE YOU SERIOUS!!?!?!? YOU WALKED OFF THE BED! He replied, "Yea, my arm kind of hurts." Turns out, he had a dream that he was walking off the church stage, and when he fell he hit my hope chest with his arm and it scraped him up pretty bad. But at least he's alive and no bones are broken and no head trauma occurred! I still can't believe he never woke up!

He was out after Thanksgiving Dinner!

Baby Fever

For the last few weeks I have really been thinking about what my life would be like if we added children. There are moments when I think I would enjoy adding them to our lives...and then there are moments where I love it just being Matt and I.

I babysat my friend's 3-month old the other day and I think I've decided that we are just fine right now without our own Matt or Anne Jr.

I caught a glimpse of Funniest Home Videos Last night and there was a clip of a woman showing her husband a sonogram and he said, "What am I looking at?"

She points to the sonogram and says, "Here is a head and shoulders and here is a head and shoulders." His face went white and he said, "Wait...you gave me a head and shoulders twice!" You could just see the realization just hitting him across the face...he was having twins!

My Husband...Just another one of the teenagers!

Last night, my husband (far left) comes home early with our friend Andy (far right) and David (middle). Since the girls weren't done with small group yet, I asked them to wait up in the garage until we were done. David had spilled red juice on his pants before group so I washed them for him and I told Matt that while we were finishing up, to get David's pants for him (which was in the garage) and he could change.

As soon as we were done I hear Matt giggling down the stairs...giggling! They had gotten bored so all three of them had switched clothes!! Matt is wearing Andy's work clothes (Its awesome that he fit in them!), Andy is wearing David's clothes and David is wearing Matt's clothes! David is absolutely swimming in Matt's clothes and can barely keep the pants on.

I just can't get over how funny Matt thought this all was! :)

Teens being punished for stealing

Chris Melton’s 14-year-old daughter and her cousin are learning at an early age about the old saying, “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.”

Melton, of Albany, got a call last week from Target that the girls were caught stealing CDs. As the beginning of their punishment, he is making them stand out on the street with large signs saying, “I got caught stealing.”

He and the girls were at the intersection of Geary Street and 14th Avenue Monday afternoon, and he was planning to have them stand somewhere along Pacific Boulevard this afternoon. He said this will continue for a few more days.

“I feel the punishment should be 10 times worse than the crime,” said Melton, 31, an auditor with Oregon Freeze Dry. “That way, down the road, when they’re faced with a decision to do right or wrong, they’ll choose to do the right thing.”

Melton said passersby called him names a few times Monday, but others voiced their agreement with him while the Democrat-Herald spoke with him.

The girls wore hoods and sunglasses. Melton did not give their names, but he said the parents of the cousin agreed with what he was doing.

When they’re not standing out there, Melton said, the girls are basically under house arrest. His daughter’s room now has nothing but her bed and clothing, and she’s allowed only to “eat, sleep, write and go to the library” for the next 30 days.

The cousin is under the same house arrest, at Melton’s house, when she’s not working. He said the girls understand why they’re being punished and they’re remorseful, but he did not let the newspaper speak with them.

“If more parents did this, a lot of teenagers would have different attitudes,” he said. “As a young kid, I was in trouble, and I was taught. I haven’t been in trouble now since I was 16.”

Target also called Albany Police, and Melton said the case will be prosecuted in juvenile court.
