A Letter To My Daughter

Dear Baby Girl (No you don't have a name yet),

Its hard to believe that in a few short weeks you'll be joining our little family. Your daddy and I are nervous, scared, excited, tired and just can't wait to finally meet you! Feeling your movements more and more has made it a reality to me that a little person is growing inside of me. I think for your dad it became more real when he saw our latest sonogram. When looking at your profile, it seems you have a chin that greatly resembles his own. I can't wait to see your features when you finally arrive -- to see how the Savage and McClane has blended together so beautifully.

My prayer is that you would grow up a joyful little girl. That you would know your heavenly father intimately and would spend your life with a desire to follow His leading. Your dad often talks about how he prays that you would be curious...curious about life and about God. I have to admit that when I first heard him say that, my heart cried "No!". Curiosity can bring pain or discomfort. I wanted to protect you from that. It would be so much easier for you to just accept the right answers and follow them. But, I know that isn't going to happen - nor do I desire you to mechanically accept life. I want you to be free to follow your own path. The more I think about it, the more I, too, am praying that you would be curious. I want you to discover your creator! Find joy in the little things. Discern His direction for your life and hunger for more.

I love the verse from Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I pray that your future would be filled to the brim with hope and excitement.

My desire is that you become a young woman with a healthy self-esteem, wrapped up in the Savior and family who loves you. When you look into a mirror, I hope you see something beautifully created with a purpose.

We won't be perfect parents, despite how much we try. I can promise that at some point we will fail you or will make an imperfect parenting decision. But, know that we love you.

We love you so much already and are excited to be your parents!

Love,

Your Mom

Lord, help me to live joyfully and playfully, myself, so she can see your life in me and find her way to you.

  3. Linked here from your mom's blog. Such a cute baby bump (in the picture on her page)! I am also expecting a baby (my second), due April 24th...so I'm right there with you, girl!

Wish I would have discovered your blog a bit sooner. It's been fun reading through your last few posts...so able to relate. You would probably appreciate my most recent post too, about my baby (along with pics) and God's plans for him/her based on Psalm 139.

The letter above is so precious! Such a blessed little baby! :) Cherish every moment with that curious little girl, the time really does go by so fast!!
